What the Light Left Behind

This poem is a quiet lament wrapped in devotion, a tribute to a love that distance could not dissolve. It speaks of longing undeterred by silence, of hope that lingers even when fate has closed the door. Through tender reflections and vivid imagery, the verses trace the emotional aftermath of separation, the haunting presence of a beloved lost, the weight of unspoken prayers, and the persistence of love that refuses to fade.

It is not just a chronicle of heartbreak, it is a testament to the endurance of feeling. Even in absence, the poem finds beauty in remembering, strength in vulnerability, and faith in the possibility that paths may one day realign. And if they do not, the echo of love is enough to carry the heart forward.

If the beloved’s presence was barred by fate
And all my hopes to meet her came too late
Still I remained through every parting day
As months and nights passed silently away
And all I saw was love for her still grow
Defying time refusing still to slow
You left with tears that spoke from silent eyes
A shattered love beneath my ribs now lies
Has not the time yet come through all this pain
For scattered hearts to seek their home again
For God may gather those torn far apart
When all the world believes they’ve lost that start

My dream of you remained forever veiled
A prayer in love though every effort failed
I wrote your name in longing through my chest
And sighed my nights away with no more rest
I see your ghost in every passing face
A shadow I can neither lose nor chase
I ache for you though you've withheld your hand
Your love still pours through me like desert sand
I’ll keep my vow though miles may intervene
For hearts remember what the eyes have seen

And if you ever find your way once more
I’ll hold you close like never once before
But if you don’t then let the longing stay
For even echoes help me find my way
